The Music of Paul Voudouris
Contact Theater
release date: 1990

A live recording of Paul's outrageous one-man performance art concerts. This "double album" includes audio art collages, and songs. During this period, Paul's shows primarily consisted of satirical storytelling. The subjects were the sometimes bizarre and unconventional practices of the new-age movement. From massage to colonics to extraterrestrial walk-ins, this is a unique work.

Out of print. Limited quantities available only through Hit Records,
on chrome 90 minute cassette.
US $ 15

Reviews of Contact Theater

“Contact Theater” has a lot of variety to it. It is primarily live recordings of my performances which combined storytelling, sound collages, and songs. You can get a taste of the stories by reading them, in print, on this site. (I like “The Feathered Stud” and “An Underwater Kite”.) As most (but not the aforementioned) stories were written in the initial years of my Sedona experience, they reveal a naive, but tongue in cheek approach to the new-age. Also on this tape is one of my favorite sound collages, “We’re All Soul Travelers” (which includes the voice of the always brilliant John Spheeris), and three songs I wrote and sang while living in Hollywood. I especially like the song “Remembering Paradise” and the collage “Pura Vida” (with the voice of village “idiot” Oki) as they bring back fond memories of Costa Rica. Chris Spheeris was a great help throughout this project: playing, mixing, and creating cover art.
